Screen films are a rather new phenomenon in the Pantheon of Fine Arts. They prove to be the youngest art “invention” along with photography andtelevision. Its two other wide-known denominations are “motion pictures” or “cinema”;

In 1895 Auguste and Louis Lumiere invented the Cinematograph that included camera, projector and printer. Within months they became the main European cinema producers, earning millions within the nearest time.

The rise of film industry

To the best knowledge, screen film industry became a moneymaking enterprise firstly in Europe and all over the world. In fact, the rapid invention of the Cinematograph by the Lumiere brothers as a result of wide popularity of "moving pictures" and readiness of public to pay great sums for this kind of entertainment. The most of that-time inventors and engineers were entrepreneurs, including Lumiere brothers, Edison, Robert W. Paul, Georges Melies, Charles Pathe and many others.

From the very first show on, the Lumieres set about touring around all over Europe selling both Cinematographs and their newest screen films in all visited countries.

Within the nearest time, a great number of screen films were produced, making cinema the wealthiest and most fast developing art industry.

These are not only screen films that are produced in tremendous amount, but also movie theaters are built all over Europe. There are organized film-producing companies that design plots, shoot screen films and pay huge fees for the performance of certain roles.

By 1912, in Hollywood, for example, being a screen film actor is equal to being a star as it is accompanied by unbelievable fame, financial success and career promotion. From 1931 to 1956, screen film industry was the main stand-by material storage of the television system.

We shouldn't forget about the profitability of the screen film industry nowadays, including American Hollywood, Mumbai-centered Bollywood (the Indian film industry), and world-known festivals, such as Berlinale, Cannes Festival, Moscow International Festival, etc.

It is no secret that screen films are falling behind Internet video and DVDs nowadays, but still keep one-third of the entertainment art market share.
