Screen films are a rather new phenomenon in the Pantheon of Fine Arts. They prove to be the youngest art “invention” along with photography andtelevision. Its two other wide-known denominations are “motion pictures” or “cinema”;

In 1895 Auguste and Louis Lumiere invented the Cinematograph that included camera, projector and printer. Within months they became the main European cinema producers, earning millions within the nearest time.

Home Cinema vs Screen Film Theater

The 1980s opened a new era of cinema, to be more exact the era of home VCRs. It was also called "Home Cinema". During the first part of the 1980s, almost all movie studios tried to prohibit the sale and use of VCRs but it all was in vain.

People started to enjoy all pleasures of Home Cinema and almost stopped visiting movie theaters.

There were certain expectations that movie theaters would die out within next ten years having given place to all kinds of Home Video devices. However, by the mid-80s screen film producing companies adjusted to the serial production of video CDs and VHS that became a second income item within the general profit.

The other way round, the emergence of Home Cinema contributed to the boost of the European cinema. The screen films "Chariots of Fire", "Gandhi", "The Killing Fields" that made a very good start for European screen films in the 1990s.

By the beginning of the 1980s, the audience of Home Cinema and Screen Film Theaters got divided. It is normal that an overwhelming majority is referred to the Home Cinema as staying at home and watching films is much more comfortable and pleasant than going to the screen film cinema.

During the 1908s, it was also the revival of the Japanese and Hong Kong cinema.

Hence, the division between Home Cinema and Screen Film Theater is kept up to this day.
